1950
The fifth anniversary of the Great Victory found the library staff hard at work. The staff numbered nine, including two technical personnel. Despite such a small team, the scale of activity is astonishing.
Just a few highlights:
1,189 readers were registered, who borrowed more than 18,800 books, journals, and other documents. For doctors living in the regions, interlibrary loan services were organized through 33 libraries and postal loan services at 119 locations.
The collection increased by more than 4,000 items during the year, reaching over 32,700 volumes by December 31.
To provide effective reference and bibliographic services and promote its collection, the library maintained eight different catalogs. Over the year, 24 bibliographic guides were compiled, and 14 book exhibitions were organized.
In addition to developing its own collections and serving readers, the State Scientific Medical Library actively expanded its methodological activities. Staff undertook five field trips “to inspect and provide guidance to medical libraries,” and conducted accounting and analysis of medical libraries across the republic, whose number reached 29 in 1950.
Under the leadership of its Director S. F. Sergeeva, the team introduced new forms of work – lectures, seminars, and literature reviews.
The library was open every day, without holidays, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
