Unique Surgery Performed on a Child from Kazakhstan at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery

A highly complex and unique large-scale surgical procedure was carried out at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery, transforming the life of a nine-year-old child suffering from a severe form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This condition, characterized by thickening of the heart muscle, had severely impaired the normal functioning of the heart and posed a serious threat to the young patient’s life.

The operation was performed as part of cooperation between the RSPC for Pediatric Surgery and the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The surgical intervention, a combined transaortic and transapical myoseptectomy, was carried out by a team of highly qualified specialists. The team included: Konstantin Drozdovsky, Director of the RSPC and Chief Freelance Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon of the Ministry of Health; Yuri Linnik, Head of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department and Diagnostic Surgery Center; and invited leading pediatric cardiac surgeon of the Russian Federation, Evgeny Krivoshchekov, a recognized expert in performing such operations.

According to Konstantin Drozdovsky, “The boy was in critical condition, with severe blood flow impairment and at risk of requiring a heart transplant. The intervention significantly reduced the obstruction gradient in the left ventricular outflow tract and made it possible to avoid heart transplantation. The patient’s rehabilitation is going well.”

The patient is currently in the recovery phase, and his condition is assessed as stably positive. The success of this surgery gives hope to many children suffering from similar conditions.
